Painting

Professional painting as part of a complete storm restoration. Exterior repaints, interior repairs, and more.

Paint in Texas does not fail the way it fails in Michigan. The enemy here is ultraviolet radiation — the west-facing trim of a Richardson home absorbs more UV in a single July than a Seattle home sees in three years, and that UV breaks the resin binder in the paint down to chalk. South-facing doors, garage trim, and fascia go first. North-facing paint can last twice as long on the same house.

Square Construction does two kinds of painting: whole-house exterior repaints as their own project, and interior and exterior touch-up as part of a broader storm restoration. When we're already on your property replacing a roof and siding, it is the cheapest moment to also repaint the trim, the soffit, and the front door — because the scaffolding is already up, the prep is already done, and the crew is already there. When we're doing a standalone repaint, we bid it as a standalone job with transparent pricing and no 'while we're here' surprises.

We run Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore as our default paint lines because they hold up in Texas sun better than the box-store contractor grades. We do not upsell premium lines where they're not needed — a garage interior does not need Emerald — but we will tell you honestly when the cheaper option will cost you a repaint in five years instead of ten.

Why it matters in Texas

UV is the real story in Texas paint. The same gallon of paint that lasts 15 years on a north-facing wall in Buffalo will last six years on a west-facing Austin trim board. The payoff for spending 25% more on a premium acrylic is that you repaint every ten years instead of every six — and the labor is always more expensive than the paint.

The second story is interior touch-up after a storm. When your roof leaks and the ceiling stains, the drywall patch is cheap — the repaint is what costs real money, because you cannot touch up an aged ceiling with a fresh can and have it match. Smart storm restorations budget for repainting the full ceiling, not just the patched area, and smart homeowners only learn this once.

Warranty

Sherwin-Williams SuperPaint and Emerald carry a lifetime limited manufacturer warranty to the original purchaser when applied per spec. Benjamin Moore Regal Select and Aura carry a lifetime limited manufacturer warranty as well. Square provides a two-year workmanship warranty on exterior repaints and one-year on interior — covering peeling, blistering, and delamination attributable to install, but not normal wear, substrate movement, or homeowner damage.

Pricing

Whole-home exterior repaints in DFW typically run in the low-to-mid five figures depending on square footage, stories, prep condition, and paint line. Single-room interiors are priced by room. Storm-claim-related touch-up — interior ceilings after a roof leak is repaired, exterior trim touch-up after siding replacement — is priced line-item against the approved scope. We give fixed written pricing, not hourly.

Common Questions

Can I get interior painting covered by my insurance claim?

Interior paint damage caused by a covered peril — water intrusion from a roof leak, smoke, or similar — is generally claimable. Interior paint that's just old is not. We document water-stained ceilings and note the extent so the adjuster has what they need.

Why not use the big-box store paint? It's cheaper.

The contractor grades at big-box stores are formulated for lower resin content and lower TiO2 (the white pigment that drives UV protection). They work fine in mild climates. In Texas they chalk and fade noticeably faster. The labor cost is the same — the paint is a small fraction of the job.

How often should I repaint a Texas exterior?

With a quality acrylic and proper prep, eight to twelve years on the bulk of the house, five to eight years on the south- and west-facing trim. If your paint is chalking when you rub it, you're past due.

Do you do stain work on cedar or redwood?

Yes — doors, pergolas, and wood garage door refinishing. Stain is a different product system than paint and we price it accordingly.

Will you move furniture for interior work?

We move lightweight items and center-of-room furniture. We ask homeowners to handle electronics, art, and anything fragile. We sheet everything that stays and we clean up at the end of every day, not just at the end of the job.

Can painting be included in my insurance claim?

Interior water damage and exterior paint damage caused by storms may be claimable. We document and assist with the claim process.
